DeForm Trivia Quick Setup Guide

Welcome to Trivia! The new, fun way to DeForm and test the knowledge of your followers! With Trivia, you can now set up a form that picks questions from a pre-made csv file. As the admin, you can get creative and set the number of points each question gets, the style question, fun graphics as answers, and more.
Let’s get you set up for your first Trivia!

Creating your question bank

💡
Follow this link to download the template for Trivia
Prior to opening the Trivia form page, the setup starts in a CSV file. We make it easy for you to create a question bank that DeForm can automatically pull from and setup Trivia in various ways.
Here I am using Google Sheets to create my form.

There are six different types of columns that an admin needs to know to set Trivia up properly. Toggle each category to learn more:
Title
Add the title for your Trivia question here. Some people make this the full question while some choose a fun title and then ask the question in the description.
We also allow you to add images into your question! You can add an image with or without text. Follow the next steps to add an image:
  1. Get the image’s URL address
  1. Type || after text or by itself in cell
  1. Paste image URL after ||
  1. Final result should look something like this
    1. How well do you know DeForm? || <INSERT DeForm image URL> OR || <INSERT DeForm image URL>

Description
Here you can add more context to the question above.
Required
This determines if the question is required to be answered or not.
T (true) = requires
F (false) = not required
Points
You can set the number of points that each correct answer gets. Note that you cannot get partial points for partially correct answers.
Ex: Correct answers = 40 points. User gets 3/4 correct. They will get 0 points instead of 30.
Correct Options
In this column, you can choose the correct option or options. Separate each correct answer with a comma.
Options
Here is where you will fill out your Trivia question options. Make them fun! You can add as many options choices as you like although we recommend only four.
⚠️
If you have empty cells in any option column, they will still show up in the final form as a blank answer choice. We recommend that you fill in all empty option cells.
Similar to the title, you can also add images here! You would add them in the same format that you would add an image to the title by typing || followed by the image URL

All done setting up your questions? The final step in this stage is to export your file as a CSV. Let’s keep moving to finish the setup!

Getting started

Like all forms, to get started, press the big + button and select “Trivia & quizzes”

Navigate to the Trivia Questions section on the left hand column in your view.

You will now see a space where you can upload your pre-made question bank. If you don’t have one already made, you can download our template and fill it out with the steps earlier in this guide.

In this view, we also provide you with different options for how the questions will be displayed.
  • Randomly pick a # of different questions from the question bank e.g. pick 5 of the 20 questions
  • Ask every question from the bank
    • Scramble the questions from the bank if you want to randomize the arrangement
  • Add a timer countdown for each question (see what the timer feature is below!)

Add some pressure to your Trivia

Unique to Trivia is the timer feature! Add some pressure to those taking it by counting down how much time they have left to answer. You will find it in the top righthand corner of the form.
Red shows how much is left. Grey is how much has elapsed.
The outcome looks like this:
In the Trivia above, I’ve set the timer at 30 seconds. You can see that it has ticked down to 19 seconds left
In the Trivia above, I’ve set the timer at 30 seconds. You can see that it has ticked down to 19 seconds left
If the timer runs out and they have not clicked next, they will get 0 points for this question.
⚠️
The timer will not show up in Trivia unless an access gate has been created. You don’t necessarily need to have it when testing, but you will have to set up an access gate prior to releasing the Trivia if you want that included.
What if I leave the Trivia to go find the answer and come back? Does the timer keep ticking while I’m gone? No, the timer will resume counting down after you have returned back to DeForm!

Finalizing your Trivia

You have your questions set up, you’ve added your timer, and maybe you’ve even randomized your questions. Let’s get it ready to be released!

Custom branding on progress bar

Like all DeForm products, adding custom branding goes a long way to make it feel like yours!
Let’s start with the visual customizations on the Trivia page:

For Trivia, along with the timer countdown, we also have a visual progress bar at the top of the screen that shows someone’s progress. It will change based on the percentage they’ve completed. This custom color branding changes what color they will see.
Our recommendation is to make it the same color as the background! See what it looks like below:
You can see that the timer in the top right and the progress bar at the very top are both the same color

Access Gates

As mentioned above, the timer will only work with an access gate. You can set it up as you would with any other DeForm. In the bottom example, I’ve set it up so that someone can only enter this Trivia IF they have at least 0.05 ETH

Finishing Touches

Like all DeForms, remember to add the finishing touches on your form which includes:
  • Success Page
  • Cover Page
  • Settings and email responses
  • Custom URL domains
